Our Favorites

Our favorite campgrounds are Kumu Camp, Camp Naue. and Kokee State Park

  • Kumu Camp Beach Retreat- This is a private campgrounds and is located on the beach on the north east side of the island, making it a central location. Book an oceanfront site to wake up to a sunrise view. This makes a good base camp if you donʻt have strict vacation plans and want to make up your plans as you go. There are hot showers, clean restrooms, an outdoor kitchen area, and nice pavilions. Facilities here are a lot nicer than the county and state campsites.

  • Camp Naue - Located on the north shore. This private campgrounds is located near Tunnels beach, Haena beach, and the Kalalau trial. They have nice facilities here and this makes a great places to camp if your exploring the north shore.

  • Kokee State Park- Located on the west side of the island on top of a lush green mountain with stunning views and the best hiking trails on island. At 4,000 ft in elevation, it is a bit cooler up here compared to the rest of the island and can get down into the 40's at night during the winter. The Kalalau Valley lookout as well as the Waimea Canyon lookout are near by. Our favorite hike up here is the Waimea Canyon trail.

  • The state has 3 campgrounds in the mountains that they say are accessible with 4x4 in "good conditions". (Kawaikoi, Sugi Grove, and Waikoali).  We DO NOT allow going to these. The roads up there can become impassable and dangerous if it's wet or if it's going to rain, and it rains up there a lot. There also isn't any facilities at these except a composting toilet.
